GRESHAM, Ore. -- An Amber Alert was canceled Saturday evening after a suspect in a Gresham shooting was taken into custody and his 2-year-old daughter was found safe, police said.

Police said 36-year-old Joshua Cavett was considered armed and dangerous after he fled with his daughter.

Cavett, who police said is a member of the Gypsy Jokers Motorcycle Club, was a suspect in the shooting the girl's mother just before noon at the Holly Ridge apartments in the 2700 block of West Powell Boulevard, said Lt. Claudio Grandjean with Gresham police.

The woman, 27-year-old Jessie Cavett, reportedly has life-threatening injuries.

At around 5 p.m. Gresham police put out an Amber Alert to help track down Cavett and his daughter. Then, just before 9 p.m., two people recognized Cavett walking with his daughter in the 1500 block of Southwest Pleasant View Drive and called police.

Arriving officers arrested Cavett without incident, and as a precautionary measure, took the girl to the hospital to be evaluated. Police said she was unharmed.
