VANCOUVER -- SWAT officers surrounded a Clark County home Wednesday morning, then left after being unable to find a man chased by police earlier along I-5 from Tigard to Vancouver.

The suspect was identified as Sergio Hunt, 25, wanted by Tigard police on a domestic abuse case.

The vehicle's registration came back to a home at 4913 NE 55th St., according to Sgt. Scott Shanaker of the Clark County sheriff's office.

Early Wednesday afternoon, officers began searching for Hunt in the Tigard area.

During the standoff in Vancouver, officers used bullhorns for about 90 minutes, asking people inside the home to come out. Once they were out, tear gas was lobbed into the home. It was unclear whether the occupants knew where the suspect was, so the neighborhood was kept secure by police.

Police used a robot to help determine that the home was empty.

Hunt, was a nephew of those living in the home. In a KGW interview, those relatives pleaded with the suspect to turn himself in to police. They also told KGW that they felt that police treated them as the suspects.

The driver iniitally had managed to shake the officers pursuing him, even after passing over a spike strip at I-5 and Fourth Plain.

He was a suspect in a Washington County domestic abuse case, Shanaker said. The nature of his his actions in Washington County prompted the sheriff's office to call out the SWAT unit, he said. He did not elaborate, saying that portion of the investigation involved Tigard police.

Tigard police ask that anyone with information call (503)639-6168. If you see hunt, call 9-1-1.
