PORTLAND -- Portland Police shot and wounded a Pit bull after a confusing domestic incident in northeast Portland.
Officers were called to the area of NE 13th Ave. & Lombard St. after a man called dispatchers and said he had killed his girlfriend. When crews arrived, a Pit bull at the home lunged at one of the officers, who shot the dog. The dog was taken to DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital and is expected to survive.
Officers also determined that the man had punched his girlfriend, injuring but not killing her. Police are investigating it as a domestic violence incident.
"Everyone at the location was heavily intoxicated, which added to the confusion," said Lt. Pete Simpson.
