PORTLAND -- A young man was shot in the face in North Portland early Friday morning and police are trying to figure out if it may have been connected to eight other shootings over the past couple days.
This latest shooting occurred around 1 a.m., in the 1500-block of North Skidmore Street. The 20-year-old victim was taken to Legacy Emanuel Hospital where he was listed in serious condition at last report.
Witnesses told KGW they heard seven shots fired off and at least one car window parked in the area was shattered. They said it looked like the shooter was aiming for the Interstate Bar & Grill.
Police have increased their gang outreach efforts and street patrols in the Portland area in recent days, following a series of overnight shootings.
Investigators said they don’t yet know if Friday’s shooting was related to the others.
“It’s potentially gang-related. Whether it’s tied to the string of other shootings, it’s too early to tell,” said Sgt. Charlie Fender with the gang enforcement team.
So far, police do not have any suspect descriptions to share with the public in any of the recent shootings. They were hoping witnesses would come forward with information to help the investigations.
The Crime Stoppers program was offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest in these cases. Tipsters Callers can remain anonymous.
