PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Authorities say the deaths of three people found at a Central Oregon home last week resulted from a double murder and a suicide.
Sheriff Larry Blanton of Deschutes County said Wednesday that Joachim Steffan of Sunriver strangled his wife and 7-year-old son before hanging himself with a rope in the garage. Steffan also killed two cats and a dog by cutting their throats.
Blanton says detectives found three suicide notes in the home and e-mails sent to relatives in Germany also mentioned suicide.
