HILLSBORO, Ore. -- A man walking on SW Tualatin Valley Hwy. was hit and killed early Sunday, making him the third pedestrian to die on the roadway since July.

The Washington Co. Sheriff's Office said Guadalupe Grajeda, 20, of Forest Grove was walking westbound on the highway near SW 331st Ave., west of Hillsboro, when he stepped out in front of another vehicle, which hit him.  He died at the scene of the crash.

Deputies said Grajeda had been drinking, which may have been a factor in the crash.  The roadway is also very dark because of its location.

"It is very poorly lit through this area, and we do ask people to drive with extreme caution," said Sgt. Vance Stimler.

The vehicle that hit Grajeda was driven by Jose Loeza-Garcia, 31, of Cornelius, who hasn't been cited or charged with any crimes.

Grajeda is the third pedestrian to die after being hit by a vehicle on TV Hwy.--also known as Oregon Highway 8--in the Hillsboro area since mid-July.

"As we head into autumn and lose more daylight, it's important for people to wear light-colored or reflective clothing when walking along roadways, to avoid tragedies like this one," said Sgt. Dave Thompson.
