PORTLAND – A man was hit and killed by a pickup while trying to cross Southeast 82nd Avenue Thursday evening, police said.
The man was trying to cross from the west side to the east side of the street around 6:30 p.m. near Southeast Boyer Road when he was hit in the right-hand northbound lane by a Ford pickup, said Lt. Gregg Hastings with Oregon State Police.
The man was taken to the hospital where he died later that evening. The driver of the pickup stayed at the scene and cooperated with police.
Traffic at the time was described as heavy and had to be reduced to one lane in both directions during the investigation, Hastings said.
