PORTLAND -- A pedestrian was critically injured when he was struck by a car in Southeast Portland Friday night, police said.

Michael Lewis Bell, 27, from Northeast Portland, was walking across SE 82nd Avenue near SE McBride Street when he was hit by a car just after 10 p.m., according to Lt. Gregg Hastings of the Oregon State Police.

The driver immediately stopped and cooperated with investigators.

Bell was taken to Oregon Health & Science University, where he was listed in critical condition. The driver of the car was not injured.

"Alcohol is a contributing factor on the pedestrian's part," Hastings said. Bell was not in a marked crosswalk at the time.
