PORTLAND – Parents are working together to try and get a worn out playground in Southwest Portland replaced.
They said termites and decay are destroying the playground at Hayhurst Elementary School. But replacing it will cost around $150,000.
Courtney Kreutz’s daughter goes to Hayhurst. She said some kids have gotten hurt on the playground and something needs to be done soon.
“It's hazardous, it hasn't been maintained,” she said. “It's rotting. It's just a structure that needs to come down and once it's down that's a big chunk of our playground that's gone.”
Parents including Kreutz organized a raffle this week to kick off fundraising efforts.
They also set up a website for the "Hayhurst Dream Big Project" where people can learn more about the project and other fundraising plans.
