PORTLAND -- After years of cutbacks, the Portland Public School district is getting ready to hire between 350 and 400 people.
PPS was a big presence Tuesday at the Oregon Professional Educator Fair, held at the Portland Convention Center.
PPS has been recruiting teachers from as far away as Texas to fill all the positions and they said it's a big opportunity for local schools.
“I think it shows that Oregon is very serious about education,” said Sean Murray, the chief human relations officer for PPS. “The legislature has come to the table and put additional funding on the table to offer the district, basically to be able to do recruiting.”
PPS also has a job fair planned for Wednesday at Marshal High School.
