PORTLAND – A library worker at the Portland Community College was attacked by a man who was upset he was asked to leave the library, police said.
Warren Duffour, a part-time circulation worker at the library, had to spend two days in intensive care at a local hospital and was now recovering at home, authorities said.
“He is getting better, but at present still needs to be cared for by his wife, Lorca,” PCC officials explained.
The alleged attacker, identified by police as Johnny Strickland, was arrested shortly after the assault and remains in jail. Police said Strickland has a long record, including assaulting an officer.
During his time in recovery, Duffour will only be able to receive 2/3 of his paycheck from Worker's Comp. That’s why PCC employees decided to create a fund for him, with the hope of helping him pay his bills while healing from his injuries.
A letter went out to the PCC community asking that anyone wanting to donate to the fund contact library coordinators.
The family thanked everyone for their help and support.
“Warren is mending and will be receiving cognitive therapy to help him regain all his memory functions,” Lorca said. “Although it may take a while, from several weeks to a few months, his prognosis is good for an eventual full recovery.”
The circulated letter state that, In order to manage monetary gifts from the PCC Community, a bank account was set up for Warren from which he and Lorca could withdraw funds as needed. Anyone wanting to help them out financially could make a donation in person at any campus library or pay by check written to Warren Duffour, and delivered to a library campus coordinator.
