PORTLAND -- The Oregon University System was expected to raise tuition rates for the state's colleges by an average of 7.5 percent for full-time students.
As first reported in The Oregonian, the State Board of Higher Education will hold a meeting Friday to review tuition and fee proposals submitted by each Oregon school.
The average price of resident tuition at Portland State University and the University of Oregon will increase 9 percent for students taking 15 credits hours per term, according to the state board's meeting docket.
Full time students at UO could expect to pay more that $8900 per year; PSU's full-time students could expect to pay nearly $7800 per year.
The resident tuition at Oregon State University would increase 8.1 percent, meaning students could expect to pay nearly $7700 per year.
The tuition at all three schools has more than doubled since 2000.
Room and board rates were expected to increase approximately 4 percent at UO, 3.4 percent at OSU, and 1.2 percent at PSU.
The total average cost for a student living on campus was $20,151 in 2010, according to OUS Director of Communications Diane Saunders. That figure was expected to rise by 5 percent for the 2011-2012 school year, which would mean an increase of approximately $1,000 a year.
