NEWBERG, Ore. -- Joan Austin, the woman who helped develop the Allison Resort in Newberg, was remembered there Saturday for her contributions to Newberg and Oregon.

Austin passed away in her sleep on June 5. She and her husband Ken Austin were very involved in philanthropic work.

They supported The Special Olympics, education, and helped promote family-run businesses, including a $10 million donation to Oregon State University to build a state-of-the-art business school.

In 2011, Joan and Ken Austin were named Oregon history makers.

Joan Austin was 81 years old.
