SALEM – A teen walking to a school bus stop was struck by a car and seriously injured Monday morning in Jefferson, police said.
The 16-year-old girl was “walking along the side of the road” in the small town of Jefferson when she was hit, according to Tammy Robbins with the Jefferson Fire District.
The car that struck her smashed into a power pole after hitting the girl but the driver was not injured, Robbins said.
The teen was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Investigators were looking into whether slick roads from recent rain may have contributed to the accident.
Jefferson is located just off I-5, south of Salem.
