ESTACADA, Ore. – An off-duty sheriff’s deputy helped foil a burglary in Estacada Wednesday.

At around 11:20 a.m., off-duty deputy Daniel Moyer called dispatchers after he saw a suspicious person leaving the Safari Club on Southeast 4th Avenue with a large heavy brown suitcase and backpack before leaving on a bicycle, said Sgt. Robert Wurpes with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.

The Club’s owners are vacating the building but there were still valuable items inside, Wurpes said.

The deputy watched Jonathan Hogenson, 32, of Estacada head to his mother’s house on his bike with the loot.

Hogenson was arrested and is also a person of interest in several other burglary investigations in the area. He was booked in the Clackamas County Jail on burglary charges.
