NEWARK, N.J. — Cory Booker's campaign downplayed the disclosure of Twitter exchanges he had with a stripper.
Booker is the Democratic mayor of Newark, N.J., and a U.S. Senate candidate. He exchanged direct messages earlier this year with Portland, Ore., stripper Lynsie Lee.
Lee provided a screenshot of the exchange to the website BuzzFeed Wednesday. She works at the vegan strip club Casa Diablo.

In the exchange, Lee told Booker the West Coast loved him. Booker, who is single, said the East Coast loves her, "and by the East Coast, I mean me." Lee responded she was blushing. Booker replied "it's only fair." Lee didn't return an email seeking comment.
Booker has more than a million Twitter followers. His campaign says the mayor is always "accessible to regular people."
Lee and Booker have had several public exchanges via Twitter. She said the direct message exchange was being blown out of proportion.
Lee described the interaction as "G-rated flirting," not anything "secret or sexy."
Booker said the episode isn't going to change anything about how he uses Twitter.
