PORTLAND -- Police were looking for a dark Volvo station wagon in connection with the shooting of two homeless men under the Morrison Bridge Wednesday.

The two men, 57-year-old Carter "Joe" Hickman and 43-year-old Albert "Allen" Dean, were recovering from gunshot wounds in a Portland hospital and were expected to survive, according to Portland Police Bureau Sgt. Pete Simpson.

They had been sleeping when they were shot by an unknown assailant early Wednesday morning.

Witnesses originally described the suspect vehicle as a pickup truck, but police released new suspect and vehicle information Friday afternoon.

"The suspect is described as a white male wearing dark clothing," Simpson said, "and was in a black or dark blue-colored newer style Volvo station wagon with a large dog in the rear cargo area of the vehicle."

Crime Stoppers offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Anyone with information that may help investigators was urged to call (503) 823-4357, or call detectives at 503-823-0400.
