A "New Moon" is set to rise over Portland, and fans of the Twilight series are thrilled.

"New Moon" is the sequel to "Twilight", an action love story with Bella as the heroine. Her boyfriend Edward is a vampire and her best friend Jacob is a werewolf.

The books, written by Stephanie Mayer, have sold 70-million copies around the world.

The voracious appetite for the book series pleases librarians, including Andrea Milano at Portland's Hollywood library.

“I think its fantastic,” she said. “We have seen a surge in teens excited about reading, young teens begging their parents to read these books. The books have had holds on them pretty much since their release," said Milano.

Lana Veenker knows more than many how that excitement spilled over into the movie world.

“It’s very exciting,” she said. She's a Portland-based casting director who found all the Northwest actors who appeared in the first Twilight movie. That first movie is still having an impact in Oregon.

Veenker will donate autographed pictures to a raffle in St. Helens, where parts of the first movie were shot. The city is the location of four days of Twilight events; some will raise money for the Oregon Food Bank.

“People are still coming in from all over the place to visit places in Washington and Oregon where the first film was shot”, said Veenker. “And I know a couple companies that have really benefited from having that tourism, that additional business," she said.

Veenker says the third twilight movie will be shot in Canada--but she's hearing rumors the fourth might  be shot in Portland again.
