PORTLAND – Neighbors came to the aid of a burglary victim in Southeast Portland Monday night and held the suspect until police arrived.
The woman found the burglar inside when she returned to her home near Southeast 88th Avenue and Reedway Street. She started screaming and the suspect fled.
Neighbors heard the screams and ran to help the victim. They grabbed 50-year-old Lee Roy Stowell and held him until police arrived.
One man who recently moved to the area said he was glad to see his neighbors looking out for one another.
“That's a pretty heroic thing. I think we need more of that,” said Brian Seal. “If people are going to help each other out, that's a good thing always.”
Stowell was jailed on charges of burglary and methamphetamine possession, said Portland Police Sgt. Pete Simpson. The victim was not injured.
