MOLALLA, Ore. – A Molalla man chased down three men after they stole several guns from his home, police said.
Kyle Casten told investigators he was inside his house last Friday when he heard a noise in the garage. Then, he walked out to find part of his gun collection missing and a car speeding away.
That’s when he decided to grab a gun, jump into his own truck and chase the suspects himself.
“I was doing 70 through town, chasing those guys,” Casten said. “[I was] high-beaming them.”
The alleged thieves eventually crashed their getaway car and police captured one of them a short time later. The two other suspects managed to escape on foot.
“I jumped in the car with the cop and went driving around. It was fun,” Casten said.
Casten told KGW aside from his wife and little boy, the gun collection is his pride and joy.
Suspect Jason Johnson was arraigned in court Tuesday on several charges. The other two suspects remain on the loose.
Even though it was risky, Casten said he went after the thieves because he was mad. Police don’t condone his actions, because he put himself in harm’s way.
"Everything worked out well this time," said Sergeant Chris Long. "When you have firearms involved you have to be careful with that stuff."
