EUGENE, Ore. -- A 46-year-old man faces at least six years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter in a fatal stabbing in Cottage Grove.
Willie Lee Beaty had been charged with murder but was allowed to plead guilty to the lesser charge Thursday in Eugene in a deal with Lane County prosecutors.
The Register-Guard reports the Cottage Grove man admitted he was responsible for stabbing Samuel Scooter Hunter on Feb. 22 at the frontier Village mobile home park.
Second-degree manslaughter carries a minimum six-year sentence but the judge could add time if Beaty is found to be a dangerous offender because of his lengthy criminal record.
