PORTLAND -- Officers arrested a man with a loaded handgun who was threatening to shoot and kill people outside the Dixie Tavern in Old Town early Wednesday morning, police said.
Officers responded to Northwest 3rd Avenue and Northwest Couch Street just before 3 a.m. after reports of a man pointing a silver handgun at people, said Lt. Robert King of the Portland Police Bureau.
When police arrived, they found 52-year-old Christopher Harold yelling about shooting and killing people, King said.
Harold began to walk toward police with his hand in his pocket and officers asked if he was armed. He indicated he was and police told him to get on the ground, which he did, King said.
Harold was taken into custody without incident and charged with crimes including reckless endangering and attempted assault.
