PORTLAND -- A man shot by police on a Portland hospital campus Sunday evening was wanted for a bank robbery in Clackamas last Friday, police said.
Police were called to the report of a robbery at about 5 p.m. Friday to the Wells Fargo Bank at 12072 SE Sunnyside Road, in Clackamas, according to Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Adam Phillips.
Surveillance photos (above) helped investigators later identify 50-year-old Merle Mikal Hatch as the robbery suspect, Phillips said. Hatch had been released from the Sheridan Federal Detention Facility on February 12, and was listed as a fugitive when he failed to report to his halfway house.
Hatch was killed Sunday night in an officer-involved shooting at Portland Adventist Medical Center, after police were called to the report of a man with a gun on the grounds.
