PORTLAND – Authorities said a man who went missing on a motorcycle trip from Portland to Medford was found dead in Lane County Sunday.

James Lutter, 60, of Phoenix, Ore., was last seen leaving Portland Tuesday on a white Triumph Tiger and he was reportedly heading east through the Detroit area to John Day then southwest to Medford through various back roads.

Lutter was found dead on a remote forest service road, pinned under the bike about 20 feet off the road and down a 12-foot embankment, police said. He was wearing a locator device which was not activated.

Jackson, Douglas, and Lane County authorities were all involved in the search.
