DALLAS, Ore. – A man told police he was high on bath salts and ecstasy when he pulled the fire alarm in the Polk County Courthouse Wednesday, deputies said.
Just before 3 p.m., the courthouse was evacuated when a fire alarm went off on the building’s second story, said Sgt. Dustin Newman with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
A man then ran down the stairs, through the lobby and fled the building. While fleeing, he knocked down a female county employee, who had minor injuries, Newman said.
The man then reportedly tried to stop a passing driver before he was detained by police.
The suspect, 30-year-old Eric Beck of Dallas, Ore., admitted to police that he pulled the alarm and was acting erratically because he took bath salts and MDMA within the last four or five hours, Newman said.
Police also learned he tried to steal a cell phone from someone in the courthouse.
Beck was arrested and booked in the Polk County Jail on disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, harassment, and assault charges.
