OREGON CITY -- A man died Monday evening after he fell from a water intake tower on the Clackamas River near Billy Goat Island just east of the I-205 bridge.
Shortly before 9:45 p.m, the man in his 20s left a group of friends near Riverside Park on the Gladstone side of the Clackamas River, said Clackamas Fire spokesman Brandon Paxton.
He swam across the river to the Oregon City side and started to climb a water intake tower on the shore but fell to his death on rocks below.
His friends heard him fall and called for help. Crews arriving on scene called the medical examiner to recover the body.
His name has not been released.
