NORTH PLAINS – A 2-alarm fire broke out at a lumber mill Friday night in North Plains when a lumber drying kiln malfunctioned, firefighters said.

Just before 9:30 p.m., a fire started in the kiln control room at Oregon Canadian Lumber Products at 31950 NW Commercial Street. Almost 35 firefighters worked to control the flames and by 10:22 p.m. the blaze was quelled.

Investigators determined the fire was caused by a malfunctioning circulation fan assembly for the drying kiln.
