LOSTINE, Ore. (AP) -- Post office representatives will be in the Eastern Oregon city of Lostine next week to meet with people concerned about losing service in a nationwide reorganization of the U.S. Postal Service.

The La Grande Observer reports that the postal service recently sent a letter explaining that the city of 213 people will have reduced or discontinued service. In the worst case scenario, residents would be forced to drive to Wallowa or Enterprise to get their mail.

Vicky Hook, the manager of the general store, says if that were to happen, people would do their shopping in those places and Lostine would be turned into a ghost town.

Mayor Krag Norton says even the best-case scenario, reduced hours, will be a burden on people with busy work schedules.
