PORTLAND - A Portland chef has been named best in the Northwest at the annual James Beard Award ceremony in New York.

Chef Gabriel Rucker, Chef and Owner of Le Pigeon and Little Bird restaurants, was named Best Chef Northwest.

Twelve Portland chefs and two restaurants were in the running.

Ken Forkish, of Ken's Artisan on Northwest 21st has been nominated several times for best bakery.

For the sixth time, Toro Bravo restaurant on NE Russell has been nominated for best chef.

Open for one year this coming April, Ox got two nominations. Best chefs for husband and wife team Greg and Gabi Denton and also a best nod for their restaurant on NE MLK Blvd.

Beard was born in Portland. He is considered the one person most responsible for establishing the gourmet American food identity.
