VERNONIA, Ore. -- The Vernonia School District got an assist from prisoners during its recent move to a new K-12 school.
Twenty inmates from South Fork Forest Camp worked alongside employees, students, parents and community volunteers to move furniture, boxes and equipment to the new school that was built because a devastating flood destroyed the old one.
The school district asked for the assistance because inmate crews were so helpful during the clean-up effort that followed the 2007 flood.
