PORTLAND – Jefferson High School graduate and current NBA forward with the Houston Rockets, Terrence Jones, pleaded not guilty to harassment after he was arrested early Wednesday in Old Town Portland for stomping on a sleeping homeless man.

It all started early Wednesday morning when a patrolling officer said he saw a group of people leaving the Tube nightclub spill out onto the sidewalk on Northwest 3rd Avenue just after 2 a.m., said Sgt. Pete Simpson with Portland police.

While watching the group walk away, the officer watched 21-year-old Jones walk by a doorway where two homeless men were sleeping. The officer said Jones yelled “wake up” and then stomped on one of the men’s legs, Simpson said.

Police contacted Jones in the group of around eight people and took him into custody. He was booked in the Multnomah County Jail on harassment charges.

The victim, 46-year-old Daniel Kellerher, had a minor leg injury and did not require medical attention.

Jones appeared in court Wednesday at 2 p.m. where he pleaded not guilty to harassment. He was represented by Portland attorney Kevin O'Connell.

Jones won three straight 5A titles with Jefferson and was a two-time player of the year. He was on the 2012 NCAA champion Kentucky Wildcats team where he played for two years.

Jones was drafted by the Houston Rockets with the 18th pick in the 2012 NBA draft.
