SALEM, Ore. -- Home invaders looking for drugs were on the loose in Salem after beating a man early Friday morning.
Marion County deputies said two armed men forced their way into a home on the 4000 block of Vernon Loop NE just before 3 a.m. A couple in their 20s said they were awakened by someone trying to get in through a window.
The two men then broke in through the front door and demanded that the residents tell them where the drugs were hidden, police said. Investigators said the wife remained with the couple's three small children in a back bedroom and the husband was taken to the living area of the house.
Deputies said the armed suspect injured the man on his head and arm, but the victims were able to get out of the house and call 9-1-1 from a neighbor's home. He was later taken to Salem Hospital. No one else was hurt, police said. One of the suspects fired a shot as the victims fled.
The first suspect was described as white male, between 20-30 years old, 6 feet tall and weighing 200-230 lbs, "baby-faced", wearing a brown hoodie sweatshirt, a stocking pulled over his face and a black backpack.
The second suspect was a Hispanic or white man in his 30s, 5-foot-7, weighing 175 lbs, bald, he wore a black "doo-rag" with a bandana over face, a gray T-shirt, gray pants and was armed with a handgun.
The male victim was transported to the Salem Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Anyone with information was asked to call Marion County lead Detective Mike Myers at (503) 540-8096.
