HILLSBORO, Ore. --Hillsboro police have released the names of the officers involved in a shooting Tuesday night shooting as David Bonn, Daniel Winter, Debra Crooks,Scott Butts and David Morse.
Bonn, Winter and Morse fired their guns guns during the encounter with Adam Havery Olsen. Crooks and Butts were present but did not fire.
The officers had responded about 10 p.m. to reports of a man wielding a pistol at apartments at 1299 NE Orenco Station Parkway. Samantha Shenker told dispatchers her boyfriend, Adam Olsen, was armed with a handgun and knife and threatening suicide.
Shenker left the apartment before police arrived, according to reports. Officers tried to talk with Olsen and called a hostage negotiation team to the scene.
Several minutes later, Olsen came out the front door of his apartment and raised what appeared to be a handgun at the four officers in the building's hallway. Bonn and Winter fired an undetermined number of shots at Olsen as they retreated from his potential line of fire.
Later, Olsen appeared to aim a handgun through the rear window blinds of the apartment. Officer Morse fired through the window with a beanbag shotgun round but did not hit Olsen, records show.
Roughly two hours later, Olsen came out of the apartment unarmed and was taken into custody, after a struggle with police.
Officers discovered that the Olsen brandished a pellet gun that resembled a pistol.
"We were very scared," said neighbor Abitha Panneer. "We could see cops around, pointing right next door. It was pretty scary."
A family friend of Olsen's told KGW he is a good guy, but "needs help."
The officers who fired the gunshots were placed on paid administrative leave.
