ASHLAND, Ore. – Authorities arrested a Hillsboro man Thursday who had 55 pounds of high-grade heroin in his vehicle, police said.
Officers pulled over 65-year-old Raul Mendoza on Interstate 5 north of Ashland in his Cadillac SRX sport utility vehicle around 2:45 p.m., said Sgt. Jeff Allison with Oregon State Police.
They discovered 15 sealed packages of heroin, estimated at a value of $1.1 million, hidden in the vehicle, Allison said.
Detectives said this is one of the largest heroin seizures in southern Oregon in recent memory.
