PORTLAND -- "You guys are going to get every corner."

Carl Larson with the Bicycle Transportation Alliance was organizing his troops.

"I'll give you this one," Larson said as he hands a handmade sign to a volunteer.  About a dozen or so sign holders surrounded him near Ladd Circle.  They  lined the area Tuesday night with signs that give a simple strong message.

"Every corner is a crosswalk, whether or not there is paint," Larson said. "Everyone has to yield to pedestrians."

Supporters like Craig Lewis, who has three kids that go to nearby Abernathy Elementary, said he's had to many close calls to count.

"As parents we think it's kind of dangerous sometimes," Lewis said.  "Cars and bikes don’t stop for kids."

Fellow neighbor like Mike Birge agreed.  "This is a bad stop so they tend not to because it curves. It's a natural tendency to roll on through. They don't stop."

Neighbors said time and time again they have caught people blowing through stop signs, but surprisingly, not on this day.

"By my experience today, it's been easier to cross the circle." said Larson.

The BTA plans to hit a few more neighborhoods this summer, including Williams Avenue in North Portland and Clinton Street in Southeast Portland.
