GRESHAM, Ore. -- A Gresham man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for the death of his girlfriend’s one-year-old girl.

Jeffrey Locker pleaded guilty to first degree manslaughter back in June.

Locker sat quietly in court Monday while the judge sentenced him.

The child's mother, Jaimie Saechao was in the courtroom along with a few friends and family members. Family friend Michelle Ellam spoke on the mother's behalf after the sentencing.

"No matter how much time a person is given, it will never give her back the opportunity to see her child's first kiss, fist love. It doesn't matter how much time he gets," Ellam said.

Locker had initially called 9-1-1 claiming the baby hit her head and doctors diagnosed her with severe head trauma. The girl died from her injuries two days later.

Locker's sentence offers no chance for parole, and includes two years of supervision once he's released.
