PORTLAND – A former Portland police officer was sentenced in federal court to five years in prison for receiving child pornography.

Scott Elliott, 51, pleaded guilty to the charges after he admitted he received several images of child sex abuse during a chat session online in 2009, according to a news release from U.S. Attorneys.

Several of the images involved infants and children under the age of 8 years old. Prosecutor Kelly Zusman said Elliott’s chat logs revealed he “enthusiastically” received the images and asked for more.

Elliott was a 22-year member of the Police bureau and assigned to East Precinct. He also worked in the bureau’s sex offender registration detail.

Elliott was arrested in March of 2011 after a Multnomah County detective posed as an underage girl in a romance chat room. Eventually, he tried to meet the undercover officer and was arrested shortly after. Officers then discovered a thumb drive in his pocket that had images of child sexual abuse.

Elliott voluntarily agreed to resign from the Portland Police bureau and remained in federal custody since his arrest. He will serve a five-year term of supervised release after prison and will have to register as a sex offender. Background: Portland cop pleads not guilty o sex charges.
