PORTLAND -- A Northwest Portland bar reopened just hours after a fire in an upstairs apartment caused extensive water damage.
Early Saturday morning Portland firefighters responded to a small apartment fire just above the Matador on W Burnside Street. The building’s fire sprinkler system had activated and drenched everything in the bar.
There was no damage estimate, but firefighters said it was extensive and thought the bar would have to remain closed for quite a while to make the necessary repairs.
But employees went in Saturday morning and worked together to get the bar open as soon as possible, according to bartender Elizabeth Quinton.
Quinton said the crew was able to get the bar back in shape within hours, opening only two hours later than usual.
