LEBANON, Ore. -- A college in Lebanon was evacuated for about two hours Friday after a man told his 7-year-old son there was a bomb in the building, police said.

At about 8:30 a.m. police responded to the report of a possible bomb at the Linn-Benton Community College, at 44 Industrial Way, according to Sgt. Kevin Martinez.

While in the lobby of the building, a 28-year-old man had told his son there was a bomb upstairs, Martinez said. The man's comments were apparently meant to discourage his son from going to the upstairs level.

An employee in the building overheard the conversation and called police.

The building was evacuated and nearby businesses were notified of the threat. An investigation determined there were no suspicious items in the building and employees returned to work.

The man did not face any charges.

“It turned out to be a learning lesson for some people," Martinez said. "And it gave businesses a chance to reevaluate emergency response plans.”
