VANCOUVER -- The Washington State Patrol reports a fatal accident Saturday morning around milepost 35 on northbound I-205, near State Road 500.
Jose L. Chiu Lavalle, 46, died in the crash, according to the Washington State Patrol. The Texas driver of the semi was not injured.
The semi truck had pulled onto the right shoulder because of ice on the freeway, police said. LaValle was changing lanes in his 1991 Mazda pickup when he lost control and slid sideways into the back the semi. Police said speed in the icy conditions led to the crash.
Two lanes were closed after the 5:40 a.m. wreck, then a single lane opened until the entire freeway was cleared about 9:30 a.m.
