Explosives found
MILWAUKIE, Ore. -- For nearly four hours Thursday, Southeast 54th Place in Milwaukie was on lock down after a civil service deputy with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office spotted something alarming in the home of Geoffrey and Ryan Williamson.
"There were some suspicious items inside the house that they wanted to have an explosives expert evaluate further," reported Ulli Neitch of the Milwaukie Police Department.
Concerned the items could explode, the deputy called the Milwaukie Police, who in turn called the Portland Police Explosives Disposal Unit. Ten houses surrounding the Williamson's were evacuated as other neighbors looked on.
Michael Sigea watched cautiously. Though assured he'd be safe, as a father to a six month old son, the threat of an explosion was far too close to home.
"Quite literally with the tape being in between me and my neighbors yard, I was like wow," said Sigea.
According to the Milwaukie Police Department, the bomb squad tested some items on scene and seized others for further testing away from the Williamson property. After determining no risk to the neighborhood existed, officers gave the all clear just before 6:30pm.
"We have cleared the scene, but the investigation is still continuing on the suspicious items found in the house," said Neitch.
The Milwaukie Police Department won't say what the suspicious items were, if any of the tests came back positive for explosives, or if anyone was ever at risk.
Geoffrey and Ryan Williamson were taken into custody and arrested for unrelated probation violations.
Geoffrey Williamson has a history of identity theft, while Ryan has been convicted of cocaine possession, felony escape, and felony theft.
