CLACKAMAS COUNTY, Ore. – An elderly woman was rescued after being found lying on her back in a frozen pond in Clackamas County late Friday night, officials said.
Around 10 p.m., an elderly woman was found lying on her back on a manmade pond at Highland and Southeast Sumner Lane, according to Jed Walker, spokesman for the Clackamas Fire District.
Several bystanders tried to help the woman, but were not able to rescue her because of the fragile ice.
A Clackamas firefighter performed a quick-drag rescue over the water by putting a 24-foot-long aluminum ladder over the ice.
No injuries were reported.
Walker said it was not known why the woman was lying on the pond.
