BRUSH PRAIRIE, Wash. -- A driver accused of fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run that killed his passenger near Brush Prairie was charged in court Wednesday.
The suspect, 18-year-old Yuri Tasmaly, was found a short time after the crash near Larch Mountain. He faces charges for vehicular homicide, hit and run and vehicular theft.
Investigators said Tasmaly crashed into a tree just after 6 a.m. Tuesday along NE Rawson Road in Clark County. Rescue crews said when they arrived, the driver was gone and Mikhail Golovach, 18, was dead inside the car.
In court documents, Tasmaly admitted to drinking less than six beers before driving.
He said he could not remember what caused the crash, and refused to speak about what happened in the moments leading up to the crash.
Tasmaly said he had left the vehicle and Mikhail because he was scared, and admitted he did not contact anyone about the crash.
