PORTLAND -- Five businesses had their windows broken by a group of around 50 people Thursday night in Southeast Portland.

Police began getting calls about 9 p.m. about a mob of people near Southeast 35th Avenue and Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard who were throwing rocks through business windows and pitching bottles at pedestrians while walking toward Cesar Chavez Boulevard.

Banks appeared to be the favorite target of the hoard. Wells Fargo, Umpqua, Chase and US Bank all had their windows broken. The Walgreen's store on Southeast Cesar Chavez Boulevard and Southeast Belmont Street also was vandalized.

The mob  was walking toward Southeast Belmont Street and scattered in several directions as police arrived on scene.  Several people were questioned but no arrests were made.

Portland Police were asking anyone with video of the vandalism or information to contact them at CrimeTips@PortlandOregon.gov.
