PORTLAND -- State Sen. Suzanne Bonamici says she is running to replace former congressman David Wu. Bonamici announced her candidacy in a news release on Thursday.
She is a Democrat from Portland who has served in the Legislature since 2006.
Bonamici is the third Democrat to mount a campaign in the special election to replace Wu, who resigned Wednesday following published allegations that he had an unwanted sexual encounter with an 18-year-old woman.
Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian and state Rep. Brad Witt have also said they are running in the Nov. 8 primary.
Tualatin business consultant Rob Cornilles is seeking the Republican nomination. The general election will be held Jan. 31.
