PORTLAND -- A large plume of gray smoke brought Portland Firefighters to the Oaks Amusement Park area Tuesday evening around 7pm.
Multiple calls to Portland's 911 emergency center warned of a wild land fire in the 7800 block of SE Oaks Park Way.
Firefighters arriving on scene found a 100 by 100 foot area of grass on fire on the east side of the railroad tracks directly across from the park.
A large number of fire units sent from seven stations quickly surrounded the flames which threatened to get into the trees along the Willamette River.
Portland Fire spokesman Ron Rouse says they sent a lot of equipment to the fire because grass fires spread very quickly.
Half an hour after the first call came in, firefighters had the dangerous blaze out, with a 300 by 300 foot area charred.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
