SALEM -- A bicyclist was struck by a car and killed in Polk County Friday morning, police said.
Deputies responded just before 11 a.m. to a report of a fatal crash on Hopewell Road, near Spring Valley Lane, according to Sgt. Mark Garton of the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators learned 26-year-old John Taylor, of Salem, was driving a pickup truck that struck a bicyclist from behind. The man was thrown from the bike and fatally injured. He was identified as 57-year-old David Apperson, of Salem.
Taylor stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. Garton said no criminal charges were expected.
Hopewell Road was closed for about four hours during the investigation.
