PORTLAND -- Multnomah County Chairman Ted Wheeler reports on his Twitter and Facebook accounts that he has a broken back and cuts following a skiing accident at Mount Bachelor.

The T6 and T7 discs are broken, one badly compressed, he wrote. Wheeler said he expects a full recovery and has no signs of paralysis.

Though wearing a helmet, he said his wife told him he was "out cold" for five minutes.

He sent out a photo of himself resting in a hospital bed at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend.

Further details were unavailable.

Not particularly interested in this story. Why are there so few stories on which we are allowed to comment? Are the kgw.com censors so easily offended that we are not allowed to make comments on stories that affect a large portion of the population, like, say, the story about boiling water? How thin skinned are you folks anyway? It looks as though your faithful posters are having the last laugh, though. The stories on which you ARE allowing comments (Civil War, TrailBlazers, etc.), have no comments, or very few. Bye. Hank

Hank, well said. At least KATU and KPTV let you comment on the stories, unlike KGW's pathetic shutting off of comments on the stories people care about most.

hankb:...I can't seem to find ANYONE these days!! This site does not feel the same....I see corporatemom and 'boy_scout only ocassionally...I've seen himhandy just once or twice; and Black Hand and Wacee are totally GONE!! And, of course, I NEVER see veganpeace nearly enough!!..And never get to "talk" to him/her AT ALL anymore!... It's like the "world" has changed, and my "friends" are all gone!...Only people I don't know!! If we still had our "Profiles" I could drop them a note, but now they may be lost forever!! I DO NOT like this change!! The "faithful" are all MIA!!!......Top-g.... :>/

I have to agree with you hankb, I am shocked at how few stories KGW lets you comment on. It always has been my first local site to check out, but I think I am going to put it at the bottom of my list. I know some of the comments are crazy, I would rather they have to approve comments to get rid of the nut jobs than just turn them off in so many stories. Related to this topic, not a huge fan of Ted, but I do hope he recovers well and quickly.

cornholio & topazgirl- I had to come back and check to see if my original comment was still here. It's nice to see that a couple of folks whose comments I have come to enjoy reading on these boards were still here. I think that many of us were willing to give this new format a chance and it did sound like they were interested in our ideas at first, but now they don't seem to care and that's too bad. Even at that, I don't think that it is the new format as much as it is their unwillingness to allow us to comment on stories. It's their website so they can do what they want, but I do not understand their rationale for deciding what stories to open for comments. I used to look forward to my lunchtime every day for a chance to share my over-enlightenment with the masses, but I guess it's back to reading The Best of the Web Today. If this is the end of the line, take care, cornholio. Topazgirl- I appreciate your friendly disagreements and your appreciation of my meager contributions.

nwskeptic- As one of the "nut jobs" (I was formerly 'hank', a member of the Progressive/Red/Green movement), I don't know that I necessarily agree with someone having to approve or disapprove my comment prior to it being published. I think that the community of posters were mature enough to discern what posts should be allowed via the thumbs-up and thumbs-down buttons. If a post was particularly "offensive" we had the ability to suggest it be removed. Not now. I don't like someone else deciding for me what I see or hear before I have had the opportunity to form my own opinion. One poor soul, I called him "Mr. Resilience", was forced to create a new virtual moniker nearly every week and was constantly under scrutiny by the administrators. I never could figure out why. He didn't use profanity. He wasn't threatening. He just had a unique approach that some found offensive.

Oh, GOOD Gravy!!...Why was my last post to hankb removed?! This is happening quite a bit on this site lately! It's one thing if the comment is offensive...or obscene words are used; but to just remove a post because you CAN is really unfair! What are the new "rules" now?! This is very frustrating!!

KGW has become an Uber liberal site that's so PC it can't stand itself. Why censor what you don't like when you can block all comments? BoregonLive is still an alternative... Si Se Puede!
