PORTLAND -- A late-season weather system brought a wintry mix of rain and snow to Oregon overnight, with snow falling in the coast range, several inches accumulating in the cascades, and scattered reports of snow around the area.
Temperatures in the Metro areas stayed in the high 30s and most Metro residents saw only a cold rain overnight.
Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Resort reported three inches of new snow and Timberline added four inches to its snow base.
Freezing levels were at 1,500 feet and rising Wednesday, with any precipitation in the Metro area likely to fall as rain.
March Snow
Snow fell in Southwest Portland and in the Troutdale area early Tuesday. Monday night, scattered snow showers were reported across higher elevations of the Metro Portland region and then flakes fell in areas around 1,000 feet in the Willamette Valley early Tuesday. Some residents even saw hail and wind, while others experienced heavy rain.

Allard added that the next round of moisture will likely hold off until late Tuesday, and it will be a rainy system.
"The good news is, our temperatures should be above freezing everywhere later Tuesday by the time the rain starts," he explained. "However, there could be some pockets of wet snow before becoming all rain. The coast range, the foothills, and the cascades will all get a healthy helping of new snow as the snow level rises to about 2,000 feet."
