PORTLAND -- A dramatic wreck blocked northbound lanes of Interstate 5 near the Rose Quarter in one of two crashes that snarled traffic in Portland Thursday.

Around 4 p.m., a truck and Volkswagen collided closing all but one lane on I-5. All lanes were reopened before 5 p.m. but the backup stretched for miles.

At least one person was taken to the hospital.

Traffic was also snarled on Highway 30 after a crash under the St. Johns Bridge Thursday. Police closed the bridge in both directions from about 2:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. while responding to a possibly suicidal woman. She was talked into ending her attempt.

Highway 30 was later re-opened around the crash under the bridge.
